I Am Making This Happen.
Hi, I'm Ms. Rigley Janis
I am a high school teacher and advocate for financial education. After experiencing the rude transition from college to adulthood with no financial knowledge, I became determined to make a difference. With a background in wealth management, Crystal created the Personal Finance: Dream, Plan, Execute, Thrive course in 2020, which combines practical financial education with goal-setting and career exploration. Her mission is to make personal finance a required high school course for all seniors and empower young people to dream big, achieve their goals, and thrive financially from day one.
Don't Just Take My Word For It, Though.

Ms. Rigley’s personal finance unit is one of the single best things that happened to me in high school. Before learning about personal finance in her class, I had next to zero financial literacy and felt so lost approaching adulthood and college and financial independence. My parents don’t know much about investing, so I never learned what it was, let alone how to use investing to build wealth and achieve financial freedom, and my knowledge on credit, credit cards, and credit scores was also extremely limited. Now that I’ve done the personal finance unit with Ms. Rigley, however, I know how to use credit cards, checking and savings accounts, and retirement accounts, and I have a relatively good idea of how to invest. So as soon as I turned 18, I opened a new bank account, got a student credit card to start building credit, and opened a Roth IRA to begin investing as early on in life as possible (even if only a small amount at first). I can’t overstate the impact this unit will have on me financially going forward in life.

I just wanted to thank you so much for doing this class. My daughter Isabel Handa took your class during the pandemic, and has told me that it has “changed her life”. I can see this in the choices she makes, and I am so thrilled that she and Estelle are gaining this knowledge early on. I feel it should be a required course and wish I had the opportunity to benefit from this class as a teenager.
Thank you so much for empowering my daughter to make smart financial decisions.
